They told Hermelinda Gomez that she had to get an 80 cm metal rod, a backpack to bring water, boots or shoes for trekking mountains, and a hat with a visor to protect against the sun. But the most important thing, they said, was to always hold close in her mind the silent and constant promise she made to her son when he disappeared: I will look for you until I find you, no matter how many days it takes, despite the hot sun and anything else that happens. And if I find you, I’ll keep looking, this time for someone else’s lost child. Because promises were made to be kept.
