Tavera the lawyer met with Andrea González, signaling for her to take a seat on a small chair. He opened the folder with her offer. He looked at her for a moment. She smiled. The lawyer had a thin mustache over his top lip that stretched into a smile as he offered Andrea the pen with which to sign the contract. She took the pen and stopped smiling. Her salary was 34% lower than her friend Jose, who also received the same job offer as her.

Andy looked at the lawyer and said: 

–This wasn’t the agreed upon amount.

The lawyer took back the contract and her pen, and said,

–It’s the salary that corresponds with your qualifications.

–But, Jose has the same position and he earns more than I do!

–Well, he’s a man. That’s how it’s calculated.

Andrea rose from her chair, took her briefcase, and left the office. The door slammed behind her.
