In a sterile white waiting room, there are 10 gray chairs. Four of those are occupied by a girl accompanied by her mother, a woman of 34 and the other one is 45 years old. They all look at each other in silence.  Each one thinks that the other is there for a reason different from theirs. A nurse comes out from her cubicle and says in a loud voice: Adela Martinez? The 34-year-old stands up and goes to the room which says on the door: Dr. Lopez.

On the desk in the room there are lots of pamphlets that explain how an abortion works. The 13-year-old stands up and takes one. Her mother says:

–Read that really closely, because that way you’ll know what they’re going to do to you.

The girl responds: will it hurt?

The 45-year old says:

–No. You’re going to be fine.
