At the school of journalism, there is an ethical code that students must always go by: above all else, the truth must prevail. After four years of hearing this, it is ingrained in almost all the journalists at the school that the truth must be defended first and foremost. 

Mercedes  lived in Tijuana and felt proud of the truth she defended with each report, with each article. Despite this, she was not able to defend herself on January 15th. Her peers took on the task of continuing to defend the truth in her honor, despite the pain they felt.
